CRICKET Control

Crickets are usually harmless, but they can be loud, persistent and surprisingly annoying once they get indoors. Most are brown to black with long antennae and powerful hind legs for jumping. 

In Southern California they often wander inside looking for cooler shelter, moisture, and easy hiding spots, especially around garages, laundry rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms.

If you are hearing chirping at night, finding crickets along baseboards, or spotting them near sinks and utility areas, it usually means they are slipping in through small gaps. They can also nibble on fabrics, paper, and stored items when they are stuck indoors and searching for food.

How to reduce crickets around your property
Start outside, because that is where the pressure builds. Keep weeds and tall grass trimmed, clear leaves and yard clutter, and avoid storing wood, cardboard, rocks or debris against the structure. If you keep firewood, store it off the ground and away from the building. The fewer hiding places near the walls, the less likely crickets are to hang around and find a way in.

Next, tighten up entry points. Seal cracks and small openings around pipes, cables, and gaps near doors, garage edges, and vents. Repair screens and add door sweeps where light or air is coming through at the bottom. 

Crickets also tend to gather where outdoor lights attract insects, so switching exterior bulbs to warmer, softer lighting and moving bright lights away from doorways can reduce activity at the entry points.

If crickets keep showing up inside, a targeted exterior perimeter treatment and a quick check for entry points usually solves it fast and helps prevent repeat issues.
